WHEN AND WHY DID WE LET OUR CHILDREN BECOME VICTIMS?
Ever since the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut comments have been written, spoken, and preached on what needs to be done.
- Stronger gun control
- Armed guards in schools
- Arming teachers
- Then there is the constitutional right to bear arms
This is a difficult issue. The United States Constitution gives citizens rights, one of them is the right to bear arms.
And the basis of this country is based on LIFE, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
One right does not out weigh any other right.
Argue it anyway you want to, but people are dying because of hand guns, rifles, assault and other type of weapons. They are also dying from drunk drivers, in attentive drivers, domestic abuse, gang violence and more causes than I want to think about.
Why are our children victims because they are a student in kindergarten or college? Why are law abiding citizens a victim just because they went to a movie? Restaurant patrons a victim because they are enjoying a meal? Employees a victim because they went to work?
A weapon alone does not kill. A car alone does not kill. People's actions kill.
Let's start protecting our children, our students, our citizens - old and young. If you take all the weapons away, these people will kill by other means.
We are an advance society. We have intelligence. Are we smart enough to understand we should not limit those willing to make a difference and give them the power to protect the innocent?
